Who runs this service
ScreenText Study is operated by Burt Lao under the ScreenText name. This notice covers the ScreenText Study website, its account features, its AI tools, and its public deck library.
Information we keep
- Account information: your name, email address, sign-in provider, account role, and essential sign-in sessions.
- Age and permission information: a declared birth year and, when required, a guardian email, name, relationship, and recorded permission.
- Your learning content: decks, cards, folders, tags, imported material, selected Google Workspace files, images, audio, citations, and AI drafts.
- Your study activity: review ratings, due dates, progress, tutor conversations, AI usage totals, and voice-session metering.
- Community safety information: publishing requests, rights confirmations, reports, moderation decisions, and audit records.
- Aggregate traffic: daily page totals for broad page groups. This tracker stores no visitor identifier, IP address, or browser fingerprint.
Production hosting and security logs may temporarily contain request details such as an IP address, time, and requested path. These logs are used to keep the service reliable and secure, not to build advertising profiles.
How we use information
We use information to sign you in, save and schedule your cards, provide imports and AI features you request, enforce usage limits, moderate public decks, answer support requests, prevent abuse, and delete or export your account data.
We do not sell or rent personal information. We do not use third-party advertising trackers. We do not create public profiles for learners under 18.
Google information
Google sign-in gives us basic account information needed to create your account. Google Drive access is requested only after you choose Choose from Google Drive. The picker can access only the file you select. Its short-lived access token stays in your browser and is not sent to ScreenText Study.
A selected file is copied into your private learning workspace so ScreenText Study can perform the import or AI task you requested. You can delete the related deck or your account.
Our use of information received from Google Workspace APIs will follow the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
AI processing and service providers
When you choose an AI feature, the material needed for that request is sent to OpenAI. ScreenText Study sends a salted account identifier instead of your name or email and requests that response content not be stored as application state. OpenAI may still keep limited abuse-monitoring data under its API data controls.
We also use service providers for hosting, private object storage, malware scanning, Google account services, and email delivery. They receive only the information needed to provide their part of the service.
Private, unlisted, and public decks
New decks are private. An unlisted deck requires its current secret link. A public deck requires an adult account, a rights confirmation, human review of AI-assisted cards, and moderation. Public decks show the creator name and can be remixed with attribution.
If a public deck is remixed, a limited attribution snapshot may remain after the original deck is removed. This protects the history of the learner's copy without keeping the original private account content.
Retention, export, and deletion
Account content stays available while your account is active. You can export your data from Account settings. You can delete individual cards and decks, or start permanent account deletion.
Deletion removes active account content and places private files and external AI storage into a durable cleanup queue. Encrypted backups may keep a protected copy until that backup expires. Required security, moderation, and attribution records may be retained when needed to protect other users or meet legal obligations.
Age limits
ScreenText Study is for people age 13 or older. We do not knowingly accept accounts from children under 13. Learners age 13 through 17 can study without AI. AI features require a parent or legal guardian to use an expiring email link and record permission.
If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, email us so we can investigate and remove it.
Your choices
You can keep every deck private, avoid AI features, disconnect by signing out, export your data, delete content, or delete your account. For a privacy question or request, email contact@screentext.net.
We will update this notice before making a material change to how personal information is used.
